As a homeowner, you may be wondering about ways to improve your property, gain additional value and not spend a fortune. You could hire a "handyman" or a "licensed professional" to perform these upgrades or you may have lots of time and want to tackle the project yourself. In any case, some simple upgrades may be all that you really need to bring your home into the 21st century.
Some of these upgrades could include:
1. Updating light switches to the current trend in home lighting. Whether its a well placed dimmer switch or the more modern light switch with remote control. Yes, can you believe it, you can lay in bed and turn off the lights. What a novel idea!!
2. While talking about lights, how about replacing that faux crystal chandelier in the dining room to a current design. For about $350.00 you could make a huge improvement in how your dining room looks.
3. Don't have the cash for a Bathroom remodel (One of the better returns on your investment by the way.) How about replacing the linoleum floors with some of the current stones/floor tiles available at the home improvement stores. I know not many of you would be interested in tackling this one. But my sister in Virginia did her last house and she was very proud of that job!!
4. Add crown molding in your living room and hallways. You will need to rent or borrow a mitre box but you can do it!! Plus it will look great and sometimes adds height to the rooms.
5. Replace that old sink faucet. This would be a good compliment for a bathroom or kitchen. And would really accent that new flooring.
6. The last upgrade I would recommend I learned from some new construction projects. Instead of the normal shower curtain and rod. Install one of the 3/4 glass doors that hinges open into the space. The new ones have seemless lines and look super sharp. This may be the most pricey of the options noted above. The last one I negotiated was billed at around $850.00 and done by an outside contractor.
Well, I hope that helps you do-it- yourselfers. It can be done and can make your home much more modern feeling. If you need more suggestions or information go to my website at: www.kenglidewell.com or email me at: kenglide@gmail.com .
